‘Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi’ has faced innumerable obstacles and rough patches, during its making. After what seems like eons, a teaser of the Kangana Ranaut starrer has hit the web.
The film revolves around Jhansi’s Rani Laxmibai, the fierce warrior-queen of Jhansi, and how she fought the British in the sepoy mutiny of 1857. Kangana plays the titular character in the film.
In the teaser, Kangana slashes the British flag, fights bravely in battle, and yet faces her own turmoil when her child dies.
“I am proud of this film, and of portraying a character who empowers and inspires. We have put in our heart, blood and sweat into making this film. Manikarnika will make every Indian proud,” Kangana had earlier said in a statement about the film.
Initially, Manikarnika had been directed by Krish Jagarlamudi.
However, he stepped out of the film to focus on the NTR biopic down South, and Kangana stepped into his shoes. This led to much friction with many of the cast members, including Sonu Sood, who walked out of the film claiming that he couldn’t work with an incompetent director.
The film, which also stars Ankita Lokhande, will hit the screens on January 25, 2019.
