Organizing the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Awards in Nepal by the government has drawn controversy. Critics, director, artist and producers have denounced the move as an effort intended to downgrade Nepali movie, while others have supported the move.
Those favouring it were of the view that this move will help to boost the Visit Nepal Year 2020.
The Cabinet has decided to organize the event in Nepal with NTB and Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) the joint co-organizers. The government will have to spend almost Rs 1 billion to organize the Awards.
Yangesh, Chair of Film Critics Society of Nepal said, organize the IIFA awards in Nepal wouldn’t help for our country. He became dissatisfied over this move.

Likewise, Chair of Nepal Film Development Board Mr. Keshab Bhattarai expressed solidarity with the move of government. People from various walks of life came to against for this move.
